Bharat Sundar is a young Carnatic vocalist. He first studied under Gayathri Mahesh, and recounts how his focus changed from filmi to Carnatic after one competition:
"I was attending a lot of competitions for filmi music...in one such competition, I lost the competition and was presented a pack of Carnatic music CDs. So one concert changed my life...".
Today he studies under PS Narayanaswamy, balancing a rigorous practice schedule with touring and teaching in his own right. He recently became the first winner of Jaya TV’s Carnatic Music Idol.
"I wouldn't want to restrict to Carnatic music - I love listening to and trying out various other types of music."
