Darbar Festival 2017

16-17 Sept at Southbank Centre, 8 Oct at Barbican Centre and 9-12 Nov at Sadler's Wells

Darbar comes to Sadler’s Wells for the first time, building on its success since launching over ten years ago. A carefully crafted invitation to delve into the best of current classical Indian music, this year Darbar reaches out to its sister art form by presenting classical dance as well as music.

Alongside revered musical masters of the Indian subcontinent and new talents, Darbar and Sadler’s Wells join forces to offer an unprecedented classical dance programme specially curated by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Akram Khan. A rare chance to experience live the vibrancy and emotional power of these two art forms, firmly rooted in tradition yet in constant reinvention.

The Festival is dedicated to Bhai Gurmit Singh Ji Virdee (1937-2005), an inspirational teacher of the tabla in whose memory the Darbar Festival was first established in 2006. Come to the Darbar Festival and explore some of the finest improvised music in the world. If you have never been to an Indian classical concert, then join us to experience this life enhancing music.
