India’s maestros explore late night ragas in celebration of….
FIRST HALF
Purbayan Chatterjee sitar
Rakesh Chaurasia flute
Satyajit Talwalkar tabla
Patri Satish Kumar mridangam
The concluding double bill signature concert brings classical elegance to this epic double bill. An immersive concert featuring three of India’s household classical musicians. Chatterjee and Chaurasia perform the long-awaited sitar and flute duet accompanied by two master percussionists to transport you. Chatterjee has evolved and created his own signature sound still inspired by his teachers and Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. Chaurasia maintains his uncle, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia’s bansuri legacy. Both create the magic weaving and bending of midnight raga notes into a hypnotic trance that calms you and elevates your soul. They are accompanied by two of India’s master percussionists, Kumar and Talwalkar who balance rhythmic poise and the highly explosive improvisation to a groovy crescendo.

SECOND HALF
Shubha Mudgal khayal
Aneesh Pradhan tabla
Sudhir Nayak harmonium
Probably the finest classical musician in India today, Mudgal is a musician and composer known for her lyrical luminosity to her singing. The depth of her music is attributed to her master teachers, notably Pandit Ramashreya Jha the distinguished composer, musician, scholar and teacher of Hindustani classical music. This concert will be upstanding for its purity of raga and heritage through the raga and powerful passionate compositional choices. Par excellence, Mudgal sings midnight ragas, rarely sung due to venue restrictions in both London and India – this is definitely a concert not to be missed. She is accompanied by Pradhan and Nayak who provide the most harmonious accompaniment to bring out the best of each other – the perfect musical team.
