Lunchtime Concert by Kaviraj Dhadyalla & Surdarshan Chana

Single Bill

Our monthly lunchtime wellbeing concerts features two of the UK’s emerging Indian classical musicians: Kaviraj Dhadyalla (santoor) and accompanied on the tabla by Surdarshan Chana. These short concerts offer a relaxed and absorbing introduction to the multifaceted world of the Indian classical arts, to help you access holistic well-being and mindfulness. Darbar believes in the power of Indian classical arts to stir, thrill and inspire. Through a series of wellbeing concerts, Darbar is bringing holistic music for the mind, body and soul to your lunchbreak!

Combining musicality with complex rhythm, Kaviraj Singh is emerging as a unique and celebrated talent of the new generation. Kaviraj grew up in the thriving city of Leeds in the North of England and is based in the multicultural city of Leicester in the Midlands. Despite being born in a Western country, Kaviraj has stayed closely connected to his Indian roots and brings a fresh perspective of modern British culture and classical Indian tradition to the scene.

His journey with the Santoor started at the age of six under the tutelage of Ustad Harjinderpal Singh, senior disciple of international maestro, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, alongside the guidance of his pioneering father, Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE. After learning vocal music throughout his childhood, Kaviraj went on to train in India under Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty.
