The 14th annual Darbar Festival which was set up in memory of Gurmit Singh Ji Virdee, a passionate tabla player, returns this autumn for 4 days at the Barbican Centre and 4 days at Sadler's Wells bringing you long standing legends, maestros and the best up-and-coming artists of Indian classical music and dance. 

Dancer and choreographer, Akram Khan MBE, with assistant curator Mavin Khoo, have curated world class Indian classical dance at Sadlers’ Wells. 

At Darbar, we believe that everyone should benefit from live performances of this life-changing art form. If you have never been to an Indian classical performance, the Darbar Festival is the perfect place to discover an enchanting world of melody, rhythm and movement.

Each of the venues for the Darbar Festival has a variety of restaurants, bars and cafes where you can meet up with friends for a snack or meal before or after concerts.

-Yogabliss-

Our 60 minute hatha yoga classes are set to classical Indian music for Darbar Festival goers and members of the public. These classes are done to live Indian classical music so are extra special. Come along to gently stretch, bend, twist and still your mind in these fun, easy going classes which are open to all levels. Advance booking essential.

We think that it's important for you to get a chance to understand more about Indian classical arts through hearing artists talk about their work. Sign up for talks and in-conversation sessions at the Darbar Festival.

-Indian Music Course-

The essential all-singing, all-dancing guide to everything you wanted to know about Indian classical music. This highly popular course aims to demystify the traditions and practices that are central to this most ancient of classical musical tradition. Whilst aimed at complete beginners, it's also useful for those with some knowledge of Indian or European classical music. The course includes Hindustani and Carnatic traditions, raga and tala theory and cover the evolution of this genre from its origins in 12th Century India to the present day. Sessions include demonstrations by musicians.
