The Festival is dedicated to Bhai Gurmit Singh Ji Virdee (1937-2005), an inspirational teacher of the tabla in whose memory the Darbar Festival was first established in 2006. Come to the Darbar Festival and explore some of the finest improvised music in the world. If you have never been to an Indian classical concert, then join us to experience this life enhancing music.

Back by popular demand are our 60 minute hatha yoga classes set to classical Indian music for Darbar Festival goers and members of the public. These classes are done to live music so are extra special. Come along to gently stretch, bend, twist and still your mind in these fun, easy going classes which are open to all levels. Advance booking essential.

We think that it's important for you to get a chance to understand more about Indian classical arts through hearing artists talk about their music. Sign up for talks and in-conversation sessions at the Darbar Festival.

-Indian Music Course-

The essential all-singing, all-dancing guide to everything you wanted to know about Indian classical music. This highly popular course aims to demystify the traditions and practices that are central to this most ancient of classical musical tradition. Whilst aimed at complete beginners, it's also useful for those with some knowledge of Indian or European classical music. The course includes Hindustani and Carnatic traditions, raga and tala theory and cover the evolution of this genre from its origins in 12th Century India to the present day. Sessions include demonstrations by musicians.
