About Darbar
Don’t miss a beat. Recharge your heritage.

We are passionate about Indian classical music and Darbar Arts Culture Heritage Trust (or Darbar for short) is totally driven by this passion to put on the best musical events in England - many would say the best outside of India. We do this by searching for and bringing together the best musicians throughout the world for you to experience.

It doesn’t matter if you are an expert or a novice to Indian classical traditions; we believe that great music speaks to all and transcends man-made boundaries. We would even go as far as saying that Indian classical music is one of the greatest gifts to all of us. Come and share in our passion!

Indian music evolved over thousands of years and today it stands as one of the world’s most complex and great classical traditions. Its uniqueness is derived from its technique of improvisation, a holistic raga (a set of notes performed in a melodic way) system and intricate mathematical flow. At its very core is the spiritual and religious traditions of India, giving it a depth and significance, which transcends many other genres of music. Put simply it stirs the soul.

Darbar’s premier event is the Darbar Festival, the largest of its kind outside of India. For 4 days a year, you can immerse yourself into some of the finest Indian classical music through an intense series of concerts providing more than 30 hours of music. Whilst our main festival is in London, we work hard to collaborate with partner organisations so that we can bring concerts to a city near you. As well as the Festival, we also support advanced artist development and working with technology to further our goals.

Founded in 2006, Darbar Festival was a tribute to Bhai Gurmit Singh Ji Virdee, a revolutionary tabla (percussion instrument) teacher, for his long and selfless contribution to the UK music scene.

Don’t let a lack of understanding of this music stop you coming to our events – you don’t really need a technical understanding to enjoy it! - trust us! This is classical Indian music at its most authentic. We don’t dumb it down or re-shape it for a modern audience. We simply create a platform for great musicians to perform, as they do in India – and have done for generations - so that you can discover an affinity between cultures.
